I was previously a member of the group and given the role of Moderator and Host. After I was removed from the group and then re-invited those roles were reapplied to my profile when I rejoined.

I'm not sure that's the right flow. If a member is removed from a group it might be better that the group admins have to intentionally reapply role responsibilities to that re-invited member.
